The Couchiching Conservancy has officially become certified as an Ontario Living Wage Employer!
This means that all full-time staff earn at least a living wage – what is needed to cover the actual costs of living in the community. Living wage rates in Ontario vary by region and can be found here.
The certification was completed through the Ontario Living Wage Network, a collaborative of employers, entrepreneurs, organizers and communicators whose purpose is to strengthen and support local community efforts and provincial initiatives that encourage employers across Ontario to provide decent work that pays a living wage for all of their employees. They have three core actions:
1. Oversee the calculation and peer-review of local living wage calculations.
2. Certify living wage employers and make sure they are celebrated publicly via their online and real-world channels.
3. Communicate the value of paying a living wage to the wider public.
Thank you to the Ontario Living Wage Network for making the process extremely smooth & easy! Check out their website for more information and to become a certified living wage employer.
