Leave a Legacy Month

In Featured, Supporter Spotlight by couchiching

What is your vision for your community in 50 years? You can be a part of that vision with a legacy gift.

This May, during Leave a Legacy Month, consider making a lasting impact with The Couchiching Conservancy through our Heartwood Fund. Your legacy gift not only protects nature but also ensures our vital conservation work continues for generations to come. It’s a meaningful way to give back to a cause you care about deeply.

When planning your estate, it’s natural to prioritize your future security. By incorporating charitable gifts into your will, you can also manage tax implications effectively. Capital gains and income taxes on assets like RRSPs and RRIFs can significantly impact your estate’s value, often benefiting the government more than causes close to your heart. Instead, you have the opportunity to offset these taxes and direct your support where it matters most—to the community and conservation efforts you value deeply.

Join us in building a sustainable future for the Couchiching region. Your legacy gift is not just a donation; it’s a testament to a life well-lived and a commitment to preserving our natural heritage. Together, we can shape a brighter tomorrow for our environment and community.

5 things you can do this month:

1. Think about the values that are important to your life and ideals for which you want to be remembered. Choose charities that will honor those values.

2. Speak to your family about your values and intentions.

4. Ask your financial or estate planning advisor to include a charitable gift as part of your financial plan.

5. Attend our “Create a Green Legacy” event on Thursday, May 8 at 7pm – 8:30pm on The Couchiching Conservancy’s office. We will be joined by Chris Hazel, Vice President of The Community Foundation of Orillia & Area. They manage funds for 26 local charities, including the Conservancy. Chris will talk about endowment funds, managing risk for charities’ funds , the Foundation’s long-term investment philosophy. The key information will be how it applies to this very difficult and abruptly changing investment environment and how it relates to our Heartwood Fund. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required to [email protected].
