Summer Staff Lily, Ethan & Izzy

This year we’re happy to have three new conservation-minded faces on staff for the season!

You may run into Ethan, Lily and Izzy over the next few months. Izzy is likely to greet you at Grant’s Woods Nature Reserve trail head and is happy to answer any questions. Ethan and Lily will be working to stop the spread of invasive plant species on many nature reserves.

Why they’re here and what they hope to learn:

Lily (far left): Applied because of the hands-on approach to protecting natural spaces. She’s completing her masters on the effects of land use change in the Lake Simcoe Watershed with Lakehead University and this work applies to her research. She’s hoping to get lots of field experience and learn about the invasive species in this area.

Ethan (middle): Applied because he likes how the Conservancy wants to build a better world to live in. He absolutely loves field work and is a graduate of Lakehead’s environmental sustainability program.

Izzy (far right) will be out and about at the Barrie & Orillia Farmers Markets over the summer spreading the word about The Couchiching Conservancy and the work we do. They’re also making very funny videos for Instagram and answering questions at Grant’s Woods trailhead.

Izzy: Applied because they love the landscape our work protects. The rock barrens, grasslands and mixed forests that span from Georgian Bay to the Ottawa Valley are called The Land Between. Izzy didn’t know there was a term for this ecosystem until a sibling studying at Flemming told them and now they’re helping to protect it! Izzy was drawn to the huge array of volunteer projects.

Welcome Ethan, Izzy and Lily!
