The Dale Easement

In January 2018, a Conservation Easement Agreement was signed with Peter and Louise Dale to protect 133 acres within Oro-Medonte Township. This property contains conifer swamp wetlands, a section of the cold-water Coulson Creek, maple-oak-pine hardwood forests, and open meadow lands.

The Dales have lived on this property since 2007, and have decided that they would like it to remain as conservation land for many years to come. As with other Easement properties, the land remains in private ownership yet with strict restrictions of its current and future uses; if sold the new owner must be made aware, acknowledge and support the conservation intent of the Agreement.

The property has a Greenlands designation in the Simcoe County Official Plan, and is located immediately downstream of the Provincially Significant West Coulson Swamp wetland. It is also within the Severn Sound Drinking Water Source Protection area.

To date there have been eight wildlife species listed that have Provincial significance, as well as seven locally uncommon plant species. Peter is working with Conservancy staff to ensure habitat enhancements meet best management practices.

Simcoe County Forest tracts connect the Dale Easement to the Wilkins Easement in the east and to the Copeland Forest Resources Management area in the west, thus establishing a significant protected corridor within Oro-Medonte Township
