Who do you protect land for?

There are many reasons to protect nature.
For your grandchildren.
For other species.
To escape into nature and recuperate from the stress of everyday life.

In an era of species decline and extreme weather due to climate change, we are protecting nature to ensure there will be a healthy future for the people of this region, and for all beings who depend upon it for survival.

We need forests to moderate temperatures, wetlands to control flooding, insects to stablizing the food chain, clean air, and clean water.

Your help is needed to support the Land for Life campaign with a donation to the Priority One Fund.

OUR APPROACH

  • In 2020, we developed a strategy for protection of the highest priority habitat in our region.
  • It identified 97,124-hectares (240,000-acres), of priority habitat which, if protected, would represent 40% of our region.
  • We achieve our goals through collaboration with conservation partners.
  • To date with partners, 8% has been protected, shown in green on the map (18,759-hectares or 46,354-acres).
  • The remaining 32% to protect is shown in yellow on the map.
  • We prioritize connected corridors so that wildlife can move freely. There are five corridors: Carden Alvar, Black River Wildlands, Matchedash, Minesing to Matchedash and Bass Lake West
