Annual General Meeting Draws a Crowd

Despite the possibility of scary winter weather, almost 150 people attended The Couchiching Conservancy Annual General Meeting on Saturday, January 28th at Lakehead University.

Those in attendance watched presentations on our conservation efforts from 2011 as well as our plans for the upcoming year and beyond.

Among the highlights was an impassioned presentation from Gord Ball who introduced the Heartwood Fund, a new venture developed by the Past Presidents group.  The Heartwood Fund enables concerned citizens to contribute towards an endowment fund to help ensure the financial stability of the organization in the future.  To find out how you can be a part of this new program, see the Heartwood Fund section on this website.

Mark Bisset, Executive Director introduced our newly designed website created through the efforts of staff from Downtown Computers.

There were other activities as well: a membership table, raffle tickets for a bird carving donated by David A. Homer, displays of conservancy programs and products, information on the Carden Nature Festival, and of course, a chance to meet others who care about the environment.

The meeting wrapped up with a lively and entertaining presentation from  Kevin Callan, “The Happy Camper”. The theme of his talk was: “Wilderness Pleasures” Using personal videos and images from across the province, Kevin helped everyone understand why we love wilderness so much — a reminder to some, and a reason for others, to head out and enjoy our time in nature.

At the conclusion of his presentation, special prizes donated by Casino Rama were presented to several lucky audience members.

After the meeting, everyone gathered over coffee and sweets to socialize and speak further with representatives from the Conservancy.

Thanks to everyone who came out and we look forward to seeing you in 2013.
