Ling Easement

Size: 400-acres (162-hectares)

Status: Not Open to the Public

Protected: Dec 23, 2015

Protected by: Ling family

Background:

The 400-acre Ling property is located in the City of Kawartha Lakes, a few kilometers south-west of the village of Kirkfield.

Two headwaters of streams that eventually feed the Talbot River Subwatershed (of Lake Simcoe) have their origins on or immediately adjacent to this property. Contained within these streams are a series of ponds (both natural and man-made) that host a wide variety of wetland dependent species.

Alvar meadows and shrublands form a large percentage of the property. This is the southern edge of the Carden Plain ecological zone.

There are nine species at risk that have been documented on this property, including birds, turtles, a frog and an insect.
