Please join the family and friends of Ron Reid to celebrate his life and legacy for this drop in event. Ron was instrumental in protecting the Carden Alvar Important Bird and Biodiversity Area.You are welcome to walk the trail at Little Bluestem Nature Reserve.

Ron requested donations be made to The Heartwood Fund of The Couchiching Conservancy in his memory. Visit our donation page and in the Donation Towards field, please select his name.
Accessibility: there is a wheelchair friendly entrance through the back of the building, but the ramp is fairly steep. Once inside the building, the doorways to the washrooms are a bit narrow. There are two sets of washrooms. The main space is all one level. There are at least six steps to the front door, and another ~6 steps up to the main space.

The Carden Challenge is our most popular fundraiser. Teams of up to 5 people (or more depending on your category) spend 24 hours on The Carden Alvar counting as many species as possible. Last year’s participants logged 213 species!
Species IDing takes place from Friday May 23rd at 6pm to Saturday May 24th at 6pm. Participants either camp or stay near The Alvar Friday night. There’s a large organized dinner Saturday night. Please see the below page for more details.
Beginners welcome – the best way to learn birds is with other birders!
