Today marks a significant day, as it is our most p Today marks a significant day, as it is our most popular Nature Reserve's 19th anniversary, AND it's #WorldWetlandsDay 💧

"Wetlands are critical to water filtration, flood retention, erosion control, carbon storage, nutrient cycling and groundwater recharge. They also provide habitat for specialized wildlife communities. Over 20 percent of the province’s species at risk are directly dependent on wetland habitats.
Wetlands enhance landscape resilience to many of the anticipated impacts of climate change, including flooding, drought and the loss of biodiversity. They play a critical role in carbon storage.
Acting as a form of natural infrastructure, wetlands also contribute over $50 billion in economic benefits for Ontarians each year." - @ontarionature

Did you know? Grant’s Woods contains headwaters that become a wetland at Division Road. All of that water eventually merges with the North River. Even small wetlands have been found to provide significant flood protection and clean water for our community. 🙌

YEAR IN REVIEW: Once a week in the spring, our Con YEAR IN REVIEW: Once a week in the spring, our Conservation Biologist Toby Rowland checked an array of 24 snake boards as part of a snake monitoring project with Ontario Nature. He observed a garter snake, milksnake, and red-bellied snake. A tub with a grid drawn on the bottom was used to estimate snake length. Please note that we had a permit to handle these snakes.
