On Friday May 3rd, Conservancy staff, board members, volunteers, and easement holders gathered for a celebration of the completion of the Hancock Hermitage Easement, held by Ron and Sharon Hancock. The easement was completed in January 2023 – check out the OrilliaToday article here.
This 47-acre easement is in a key strategic area for land protection. We have deemed it Bass Lake West, which is an important area near the Oro Moraine, which is important for habitat and water quality.
Ron and Sharon proudly exchanged some remarks with everyone, such as “We hope we can ask other people and the rest of the world to be a little kinder to the land” and “We’ve got to save the land!”
Executive Director Dorthea Hangaard shared warmly, “Thank you for the joy that you have brought The Couchiching Conservancy, it is always such a pleasure to see you and work with you both.”
Office and Acquisition Coordinator Courtney Baker reflected, “Working on these easements [during the pandemic] were the light in my day. I’m working to protect this beautiful piece of property forever. It was a real privilege.”
Thank you so much to Ron and Sharon for their conservation leadership, and to everyone involved in the completion of this easement!
